Art and Stage Design
James Henke began to explore the medium of pastel in 2006. His first few works were still lifes of water lilies.
In 2007 he expand the range of subjects he painted to include landscapes.
James Henke has an M.F.A. in stage design and recently studied fine art at The Pennsylvania College of Art and Design. He has participated in pastel workshops with Jim Markle, PSA and Alan Flattman, PSA and Kathleen Kalinowsk, PSA as well as taking other drawing and painting workshops.
James Henke is a member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, Grand Valley Artists and the Holland Friends of Art.
This was my first pastel painting. Water Lilies won second place in a local art association show.

Artist Statement:
The things that interest me the most in fine art are the effects of light on surfaces and how the change of the seasons effects objects and locales. It is the effect of light and shade and the mood of a scene that I try to capture in my paintings.
